Classes

Several classes and/or presentations are offered dealing with the following topics: Worldviews, Truth, Culture, the Universe (Cosmology) and the Bible, Origins of Life, Intelligent Design, and Darwin, Evolution and Design. All of these classes can be tailored to specific audiences (eighth grade to adult), time constraints (45 minutes to 3 or 4 hours) and differing venues. For more information on any of these classes or presentations, contact Don Hood, Founder, at 303.564.0185.

A short synopsis of each is provided below.

Worldviews – Similarities and Differences

This is a 60 to 90 minute discussion that covers three main areas:

First, we provide an understanding of what a “worldview” is and describe the worldviews most prevalent today. Second, we compare and contrast how these worldviews answer the “Big Four Questions of Life:”

  • Where did we (mankind) come from?
  • What is wrong with the world?
  • How can we fix it?
  • What is my purpose in life?

Third, we conclude with a discussion of “Does one of the worldviews answers these questions better than any of the others?”

The Worldview Game

This is a presentation and discussion where I provide quotes from celebrities, famous people, leaders in industry and politics, etc.  We discuss the worldview espoused in the quote, then, the audience guesses who said it.  Eventually, I reveal the source.  I usually use this material in support of the “Worldviews – Similarities and Differences” material.

Truth – Absolute or Relative

This one-hour discussion involves three topics:

  • What is truth?
  • Can truth be known?
  • Is truth absolute or relative?

We conclude with discussing the impact of “Truth” to our lives, society, and culture based upon how one answers these questions.

Culture – What is in it?

This 60 to 120 minute presentation covers five main themes:

  • What is culture?
  • Should we care what our culture is and why?
  • Aspects of American pop culture
  • What does the Bible say about culture?

Four sub-topics:

  • God’s “cultural mandate”
  • How should a Christian think?
  • What about spiritual warfare?
  • How should Christians act?
  • Christian culture vs. American pop culture.

Key points of discussion include, the effects and affects of our culture in our thinking, behaviors, and attitudes, etc.

Astronomy, Cosmology, Design of the Universe, and the Bible

This 60 to 120 minute presentation involves four areas:

  • A brief discussion of worldviews (as they pertain to astronomy and cosmology)
  • A brief history of astronomy/cosmology
  • The latest discoveries (mostly from Hubble Space Telescope) and some conclusions
  • What the Bible says

Key items of discussion are the Big Bang Theory, Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, the variability of time, complexity and dynamic nature of the universe, apparent “fine tuning” of key parameters in the universe for support of life.  The “takeaways” from this session will be how the latest scientific information and the Bible are in harmony.
